WEST AFRICAN ALLIANCE EXPERTS ROSTER, ACROSS VARIOUS GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATIONS

 

The West African Alliance on carbon markets and carbon finance (WAA) was officially launched in 2017 as a regional platform aimed at fostering carbon markets and result based climate finance in west Africa. The West African Alliance’s vision is that West African countries have the institutional capacity and support network for long-term engagement with carbon markets and climate finance.

 

 

Specific areas of expertise sought for

 

The WAA is seeking experts with specialized skills in one of the following areas: technical expertise related to the operationalization of carbon market frameworks, or legal expertise related to carbon markets, all crucial for supporting the implementation of carbon market mechanisms under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement within the sub-region. Specifically, relevant topics within the areas of expertise sought include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Technical expertise and experience in UNFCCC reporting processes, managing national inventory, registry development, MRV processes, quantifying mitigation potential, developing abatement cost curves, conducting technical needs assessments, and preparing project design documentation, carbon market transactions (e.g. host country authorizations processes, approving methodologies, VVBs), and ensuring operational compliance with the requirements of Article 6.
  • Legal expertise and experience in drafting and amending carbon market regulations, revising national climate legislation, and integrating Article 6 into national laws to ensure compliance with international standards and ensure legal coherence.
  • Financial analysis including expertise in project finance, climate finance or impact finance.
