CLIMATE VARIABILITY

Variations in the mean state and other statistical variables (standard deviations, extremes, etc.) of the climate on all spatial and temporal scales beyond the variability specific to particular meteorological phenomena. Variability can be due to natural internal processes within the climate system (internal variability) or to variations in external anthropogenic or natural forcings (external variability).
