BOAD AND INTELSAT SIGN PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT TO BOOST CONNECTIVITY AND BROADBAND INTERNET ACCESS FOR RURAL POPULATIONS IN THE UEMOA ZONE

Florida, Cape Canaveral – Kennedy Space Center, August 03, 2023.

The West African Development Bank (BOAD) and Intelsat have signed a Framework Agreement to collaborate in the provision of broadband Internet connectivity solutions to underserved or uncovered rural communities in the UEMOA zone.

The aim of this framework agreement is to help accelerate the digital transformation of member states in the UEMOA zone, and to offer various possibilities for financing connectivity infrastructures.

In line with its DJOLIBA strategic plan, BOAD supports the deployment of digital solutions, promoting economic opportunities for rural communities, thus contributing to social inclusion, regional integration, job and value creation, and resilience to climate shocks in the sub-region.

“Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are transforming economies and societies at an unprecedented pace, with promising effects on economic growth, improved public services and quality of governance. Digitization is thus becoming a major public policy issue in UEMOA countries”, declared BOAD President Serge EKUE.

“Intelsat’s commitment will also facilitate the deployment of digital technologies that will help bridge the digital divide in the UEMOA zone,” said Intelsat Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Bruno FROMONT.
