BOAD’s fiftieth anniversary: designing the BOAD of the next fifty years

The commemoration of BOAD’s fiftieth anniversary was marked by reflection and exchange on a central theme: ” 2023-2073: financing development differently, the BOAD of the next fiftieth anniversary “. In line with this theme, and ahead of the official ceremonies to be held in November, six (06) thematic online workshops are being organized from August 23 to October 11, whose conclusions and recommendations will give rise to a forward-looking document. This compendium will be submitted to investors, BOAD staff, administrators, Ministers and High Authorities of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA).

The first workshop, held on August 23 and 24, 2023, focused on the theme of “Financing infrastructure development for successful regional integration”.

The various sessions are open online, to the participation of the institution’s partners and resource persons, as well as to the general public interested in the subjects concerned. In officially opening the workshops, President Ekué explained the aim of this collective intelligence approach in the following words “These workshops are an invitation to share your thoughts, your reading of the present, your expectations for the future, what you would like to see in a new and more effective way for our member states, for our union and for BOAD, inviting participants to dare to make constructive proposals for an effective positioning of BOAD in the financing of member states’ development.

The Banque Ouest Africaine de Développement (BOAD) is the joint development finance institution of the countries of the West African Monetary Union (WAMU). Established in November 1973 as an international public institution, the BOAD’s purpose, according to Article 2 of its Articles of Association, is “to promote the balanced development of member states and to achieve the economic integration of West Africa” by financing priority development projects.
